Drifting
by Phil Slattery
Abstractions
Watching through the windows of my mind,
As the light of time slowly fades into the horizon
Leaving a feeling of remorse that lingers in my heart
Like the burning acid of a bad meal
I drift the streets with sheets of rain
Soaking through my well worn coat and hat
Cascading off its brim, splashing into my face
Socks soaked, cough grows worse
From wind, rain, too many smoky barrooms
And the broken heart of one in unrequited
love
with the world.
